Baby Starfish Swimming Lessons

You may be wondering how young can babies start swimming lessons, and how expensive they are, and the answer may surprise you. Just Swimming is very proud to offer a fantastic community service to parents with babies from 4 – 6 months of age, all for free! Here at Just Swimming Nunawading, we offer free infant swimming classes. Baby swimming lessons in Melbourne that come at no cost? That’s right!

Did you know that your baby starts swimming in utero? Our free infant swim lessons, known as the Baby Starfish Program, are designed to capture the natural inborn reflexes that your baby has when they arrive in the world. During these infant swim classes, we harness these skills to help your baby develop a love of water from a young age. While this program offers swimming classes for babies, it is also designed to help parents learn how to get in and out of water safely with your baby, how to hold your baby securely in water and to provide water safety awareness for the whole family. This 6-week program has ready-prepared lesson content, including water safety, water play, and the commencement of a learn to swim journey.

We provide the same nurturing, highly qualified and experienced teacher each week and even offer an introduction to CPR skills upon conclusion of the program. The Baby Starfish Program has been designed to establish a foundation to support your infant baby’s learn to swim journey, and we do not submerge babies at any stage during these lessons.

Our baby swimming lesson program is held in our warm water pool and operates year-round with new programs commencing every six weeks during school terms. Contact our friendly staff to find out when the next program is due to start.
Just Swimming has the ability to offer parent or mothers’ groups their own class, provided children are in the same age and ability range. Contact our Swim School Coordinators, Sam and Zac to discuss group booking availability.

Infants can start swimming lessons as young as 4 to 6 months. Introducing your child to water at this early age can be beneficial for developing motor skills and water familiarity. However, the appropriate age may vary depending on individual circumstances and expert recommendations.

The Free Baby Starfish program is tailored for infants starting at 4 months of age, implying that 3 months may be slightly too young for this specific program. It’s crucial to consult with healthcare providers like paediatricians for personalised advice on when it’s safe for an infant to start swimming, as recommendations can vary based on the child’s health and development.
