OUR STORY

Just Swimming respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country, their Elders past, present and emerging throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters and community.

Just Swimming is proudly owned and operated by the Nunawading Swimming Club which has been in operation for more than 60 years.

The club first began in 1960 and has a very long history of successful swimmers producing many Olympic and Commonwealth Games representatives. Our club swimmers include Brooke Hanson, Belinda Hocking, Josh Beaver, Travis Mahoney and Just Swimming Ambassador, Jess Hansen, to name a few.

When the Nunawading Swimming Club first began on the 22nd July 1960, a few parents decided to hop in the pool and teach their younger children how to swim whist their older children were in Squad training. Over time, this evolved as more and more parents wanted their younger children to learn to swim and what started out as a leisurely weekly activity, turned into a swim school business that Just Swimming currently operate.

Today, Just Swimming provides Swimming and Water Safety lessons with a strong focus on teaching proficient stroke technique to more than 10,000 people each year With four swim schools in Melbourne’s outer east, we place a strong emphasis on teaching students to swim correctly and to be efficient and safe in the water. As children advance through our lessons there is a pathway to competitive swimming with Nunawading Swimming Club if they choose to go in this direction. Most importantly we want to ensure that every person who lives within the surrounding suburbs of our swim schools has the opportunity to learn vital water safety skills.

Our atmosphere and culture come from the history of the organisation and the way our people develop over time. Many families have been with the club for more than 30 years, with their children learning to swim, and then their grandchildren learning to swim and even becoming swimming teachers passing on generations of knowledge and skills to many families within the wider Just Swimming community. Whilst the business is not a family owned business, there is a real sense of family within Just Swimming and the Nunawading Swimming Club.

Our Swim School quality comes directly from the standard of our swimming teachers and their experience. Our teachers are trained by international level industry experts and our staff attend regular training with Nunawading Swimming Club Coaches to ensure the latest swimming skills are applied to our students . The Nunawading Swimming Club is the highest performing swimming club in the country and our swimming teachers are very fortunate to learn from our high-level coaching staff and management team.

We understand the fundamental elements that create strong, efficient swimmers which is an integral aspect to ensuring students have continued progress, success and most importantly fun within every lesson.

Our teachers build great trust and rapport with their students and understand that consistency is vital to learning. They are committed and passionate about seeing their students move through our levels and will strive to ensure students have a positive and enjoyable learning experience.

Whilst the way we teach today has certainly developed from how we taught swimming all those years ago when the club first began, our goals and purpose remain the same.
