Teens (Ages 10-15)

Many children start swimming lessons early, but it is certainly not uncommon for a child to begin later – and we celebrate anyone willing to learn, at any age. Our program for older beginner teens ensures they won’t be placed in classes with much younger children. Instead, they’ll learn alongside peers of a similar age, helping them feel comfortable, empowered, and confident as they build essential water safety skills.

We focus on progressive skill development starting from foundational techniques, such as floating, kicking, breath control, and basic strokes.

Once these core competencies are achieved – equivalent to our Turtle and Penguin levels – students continue their swim journey through more advanced levels within the mainstream at their own pace.

Whether swimming is a new pursuit or a skill they want to strengthen, our goal is to help every teen feel safe, capable, and proud of what they achieve in the water.

Adults (16+)

It’s never too late to learn how to swim or improve your technique. Our Adult Learn to Swim classes welcome all levels – from absolute beginner to those wanting to refine their strokes or build endurance. Each lesson runs for 30 to 45 minutes and is tailored to your individual goals, whether that is learning to float, swimming laps with proper form or preparing for a career or even that requires swimming ability.

Our Bronze, Silver, and Gold adult levels allow you to learn alongside other with similar abilities, ensuring your lessons are both effective and enjoyable.

Many adults join our program with a goal of enjoying quality time safely with their family around water, to feel confident when swimming in the ocean or lakes or even to complete triathlons. It’s also common for us to teach Adults to learn to swim for job requirements, such as the Police Force, Flight Attendants, or jobs in Defence.

No matter your reason, we’re here to support your journey with expert instruction and a welcoming atmosphere.

There are three succinct levels for adults to ensure you are learning with other people of the same ability, Bronze, Silver and Gold.

Our qualified, friendly teachers understand that stepping into the pool for the first time can feel daunting, and they are passionate about making every class positive and empowering.

Whether you are a teen beginning to find independence or an adult seeking technique refinement or confidence in the water, we’re here to help you every step of the way.

We conduct older beginner lessons at Just Swimming Nunawading, Ringwood and Glen Waverley swim schools and also extend an obligation-free trial swimming lesson. Our trial is at no cost to you and will give you a chance to experience our bubbly teachers, fun classes and facilities. Key skills you will develop:

    Adult Bronze

Adult Bronze allows for people who are new to swimming to develop their skills at a steady but individual pace. Movement through the water and buoyancy are explored, progressing through to the development of kicking and arm action. You will also learn breath control in the water.

    Adult Silver

Adult Silver enhances the skills which were learnt in Adult Bronze classes and further develop freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke, working towards continual movement and feel of the water to become a more efficient swimmer.

    Adult Gold

Once you can complete Adult Silver skills, Adult Gold provides stroke refinement and development for people who have continuous movement through the water. The focus of this group is to improve stroke efficiency and endurance.

Choosing a swim school can often be a daunting task. Just Swimming offer an obligation free trial swimming lesson. During your free trial you will be assessed to ensure you will be placed in the adult swimming class that is right for you and your ability.

      Adult Swimming FAQs

Contact our Just Swimming team for information regarding pricing of our lessons. We presently operate in Nunawading, Ringwood, Burwood and Glen Waverley. Our standard adult swimming lessons run for 30-45 minutes.

For adults who are more experienced at swimming, but want to brush up on technique and improve stamina in the pool, we run Adult Gold lessons, or, if you are a complete beginner we offer group or one-to-one classes to get you started.

It depends on each individual adult, their physical abilities and learning style, and the lesson frequency. It also depends on what extra practice they are able to fit in, as every bit of practice helps.

When it comes to learning swimming as an adult, there are certain obstacles one may face including fear of water, adapting to the physical demands of swimming, and learning to coordinate your body and your breathing in the water. Nevertheless, with appropriate teaching methods provided by professional instructors – alongside constant guidance throughout the process – it’s absolutely possible for individuals at any stage in life to learn and/or enhance swimming techniques.

Our adult swim classes are divided into three levels: Adult Bronze, Adult Silver and Adult Gold. Each level builds upon the skills learned in the previous level. The Bronze level emphasises water safety and fundamental swimming abilities. The Silver and Gold levels concentrate on improving stroke development and refining techniques.

Our private swimming lessons for adults run for 30 mins, however you can book multiple classes during a week. The cost one of one to one lessons depends on the location of the lesson and lesson frequency, so contact us to find specific pricing for your needs. Don’t forget, we also offer private swimming lessons for toddlers and kids if you want the whole family to learn to swim!
