Just Swimming is now offering free swimming and water safety classes for babies from 4 months through to 6 months of age.
Babies are invited to participate in up to 8 weeks of free swimming lessons. This initiative comes about because Just Swimming feels they have a community responsibility to help educate families on the importance of learning to swim and the value in starting lessons from a young age.
“It is clearly evident from recent studies, that babies who start young are much more natural in the water, have better breath control skills and learn to float faster, which will in turn assist a pre school aged child to be safer in the water. These are all vital water safety skills.” Says Kaye Garner, General Manager of Just Swimming.

What is Baby Starfish?
Baby Starfish is an introduction to infant water familiarisation. It is designed to teach basic skills which prepare parents and their babies for our learn-to-swim program.
Instructor led activities include, learning safe ways to hold your baby in the water, enhancing an infant’s inborn natural reflexes, teaching basic breath control through demonstration and educating parents on water safety for infants. Infants are not submerged during a Baby Starfish class.
Baby Starfish is a fun and enjoyable experience for you to share with your baby.
When are the classes held?
Our Babies 4 to 6 months Swim for FREE offer is available at our Just Swimming Nunawading and Just Swimming Syndal Swim Schools.
Just Swimming Nunawading: Monday through to Friday between 9.00am – 12.00pm *Subject to availability.
Just Swimming Syndal: Monday through to Saturday between 9.00am – 12.00pm *Subject to availability.
We are also happy to cater to Mothers Groups – Speak to our Swim School Managers for further information.
What qualifications do the swimming teachers hold?
Swimming teachers are trained specifically to take Baby Starfish classes. They are there to teach the correct methods to parents through clear learning objectives and outcomes. Teachers hold a Teacher of Infant Aquatics qualification. This is in addition to the minimum teacher qualifications including AUSTSWIM or SAT qualification, CPR and Working With Children Check qualifications.
What are the class ratios?
Baby Starfish classes have a maximum of 6 students in each class. This is to ensure a gentle and relaxed learning environment for parents to bond with their baby.
How long do the lessons go for?
Lessons are 30 minutes in duration which includes an introduction, instructor led activities and a conclusion.
Terms and Conditions?
Customers enrolling must have a date of birth which indicates an age of between 4 months and 5 months and 3 weeks. This ensures they are able to redeem the offer of between 1 and 8 free lessons.
This program is an obligation free program. Just Swimming encourages parents to continue their learn to swim experience with their babies form 6 months right through to being a competent and able swimmer. Our Team Leaders will discuss with you the options you may choose to uptake upon conclusion of the free swimming program.
