Become a qualified Swimming Instructor - Swim Australia
By completing the course, you will gain the competency and knowledge to teacher students from 2.5 years old and above. Conducted by industry leaders, the course provides you with all of the resources required and guidance through the process of completing the Swim Australia Teacher Course.
During the course, you will undergo five units of competency:
- Perform water rescues
- Plan swimming lessons
- Teach water familiarisation, buoyancy and mobility skills
- Teach water safety and survival skills
- Teach swimming strokes
The course is composed of:
- Theory component: At home online modules to be completed BEFORE the course.
- Practical component: 1 day course or 2 x half days (in person classroom theory and in water practical sessions.
- Supervised practice.
- Assessment component.
In addition to this, participants will be required to obtain CPR qualification and a working with children check in order to become fully accredited.
Just Swimming will support those who have completed the course in their practical supervised teaching hours required for accreditation, given they display intention to become an instructor for Just Swimming once they have received their accreditation.

FAQ'S
It is not a pre-requisite to complete CPR before enrolling however, we do recommend candidates hold this certificate before undertaking on the job /in-pool training. To reach accreditation, the Swim Australia certification cannot be issued without a current CPR.
Once you have completed the Swim Australia course and have your CPR qualification as well as your Working with Children Check, we may assist you with in-pool hours for your accreditation given you intend to work for Just Swimming upon gaining full accreditation.
All candidates should wear comfortable clothing for the theory sessions and a drink bottle. For the practical in-water sessions where you will be in the pool, you’ll need to bring suitable swimwear, towel and goggles. For further information please refer to the Swim Australia website.

Everyone learns at a different pace and has a varied background with both swimming and working with children. For this reason, the time it takes to become competent ranges from person to person.
We recommend completing your practical supervised teaching hours as soon as possible following on from the Swim Australia course. This assists in retaining information learnt and can see you achieve your hours faster.
